Modernization of trade essential to build smart Bangladesh: FBCCI

To build a modern, happy, prosperous and smart Bangladesh in 2041, modernization of trade is essential. In this regard, trade must be smart. Businessmen said this at a seminar on ‘Smart Trade for Smart Bangladesh: Way Forward’ organized by FBCCI.

The seminar was held at the FBCCI board room on Sunday (March 3) afternoon.

Speaking as a special guest, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh said that considerable relaxation is currently being adopted in opening LCs for import and export of goods. We now have to work with the relevant regulatory agencies. At this time, he called on the relevant associations to be more active in restoring discipline in various sectors and ensuring compliance.

Abdul Wahed Tamal, General Secretary of e-CAB, presented the keynote speech at the event. M Mashrur Riaz, Chairman of Policy Exchange of Bangladesh, Chairman of FBCCI, Anonno Raihan, and others also spoke at the event.

FBCCI Vice President Md. Khairul Huda Chapal, Rashedul Hossain Chowdhury (Roni), Md. Munir Hossain, FBCCI Directors and senior government officials and business leaders were present at the event.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Md. Tofazzal Hossain Mia was present as the chief guest. In his speech as the chief guest, he said that the government is always interested in working with the business community. The main driving force of our economy is trade and commerce. Therefore, the government has taken various initiatives to improve the business and trade environment of the country. The government is committed to providing policy support to businessmen in the future as well as in the past to ensure a fair business environment. He also mentioned that the government and the private sector must work together to develop the value chain in cross-border trade.

Earlier, in his welcome speech, FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam said that Bangladesh is an emerging power in the global economy today. The Prime Minister’s visionary leadership and bold steps are at the root of this sustainable growth. Along with this, a new chapter of economic and social development has been initiated by encouraging the ICT sector for the last one and a half decades with the determination to build a digital Bangladesh by 2021.
