Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sirajum Munira Kaisan of Sarail Upazila of Brahmanbaria has been withdrawn for posting a post on social media Facebook claiming Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the proclaimer of independence. He was withdrawn from Sarail around 1 pm today, Wednesday.

He has been asked to join the office of the Chittagong Divisional Commissioner by tomorrow, Thursday. Earlier, the officer faced a barrage of fire from local BNP leaders and activists over that post. He was then forced to leave the Independence and National Day program under police guard.

Sirajum Munira Kaisan joined Sarail as Assistant Commissioner (Land) on October 20 last year. This morning, a post was posted on Facebook from the official ID named ‘AC Land Sarail’. It read, ‘On the night of March 25, 1971, the Pakistani invading forces carried out a brutal massacre. That night, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman declared Bangladesh independent. Then our liberation war began. After a long 9-month bloody struggle, victory was achieved on December 16. But its foundation was laid on March 26. Therefore, this day is a symbol of our independence, the spirit of struggle and the glory of sacrifice.’

A short while after posting that post, at around 7:45 in the morning, he joined the Independence and National Day parade at Annada Government High School grounds in Sarail. There, he was pelted with gunfire by BNP leaders. Later, he was forced to leave the venue under police guard. After returning from the field, he deleted the previous post and posted a new one. He wrote, ‘The Facebook ID was hacked for a while, which was later restored. A controversial screenshot is being spread on social media, which is unwanted and unintended.’

Upazila BNP President Anisul Islam Thakur told Prothom Alo that the Assistant Commissioner cannot do such a thing from a responsible position. He wrote objectionable things on Facebook. They demanded his trial and withdrawal. Heard he was withdrawn. They want the officer to be tried.

When asked, Assistant Commissioner Sirajum Munira Kaysan told Prothom Alo, “This ID was opened long ago. It was hacked today. As soon as I noticed it, I deleted the post. I left for Chittagong on the instructions of the higher authorities.”

Sarail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Mosharraf Hossain said he (the Assistant Commissioner) was withdrawn at noon. He has been asked to join the Chittagong Divisional Commissioner’s office by Thursday. He said he has not received any written information about these matters so far. However, he has learned about the issues over the phone.
