When going on an Umrah trip, going to Medina, visiting the Prophet’s Mosque and the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and giving salutations to the Prophet (peace be upon him) are important Sunnah acts.
4 Sunnahs to perform when going to Medina
1. Pray more and more in the Prophet’s Mosque
The Prophet’s Mosque is a particularly virtuous mosque in Islam. The reward for praying in the Prophet’s Mosque is also much greater than praying in other mosques. It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Praying one prayer in this mosque of mine is better than praying a thousand prayers in any other mosque except the Sacred Mosque.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 1406, Musnad Ahmad: 14694)
A part of the Prophet’s Mosque is called ‘Rawjatum min Riazil Jannah’ or one of the gardens of Paradise in the Hadith. (Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)
2. Visit the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Visit the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him) repeatedly during your stay in Medina, and offer your greetings to the Prophet (peace be upon him). We have already mentioned that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever performs Hajj after my death and then visits my grave, it is as if he met me when I was alive.” (Sunan al-Bayhaqi: 3855).
3. Pray in Masjid al-Quba
Masjid al-Quba in Medina was the first mosque built by the Prophet (peace be upon him). Masjid al-Quba has been praised in the Quran. Allah Almighty says, “Indeed, a mosque established for piety from the first day is more deserving of your standing in prayer. There are people in it who love to purify themselves in a good way. And Allah loves those who purify themselves.” (Surah At-Tawbah: 108)
4. Visit the graves of the martyrs of Uhud
The Uhud desert contains the graves of the martyrs of the Battle of Uhud. Among them are the chief of the martyrs, Hazrat Hamza (RA), Hazrat Hanzalah (RA), Hazrat Abu Salamah (RA), and many others. He said, “O Allah, Your servants and Prophets bear witness that these are martyrs. Whoever visits their graves and greets them, the martyrs will return their greetings until the Day of Judgment.” (Mustadrakah al-Hakeem: 4320)
